BAFLF & JKSS observed International Workers’ Solidarity Day.

Bangladesh Agricultural Farm Labour Federation (BAFLF) and National Women Farmers-Workers Association (JKSS) have observed today historic May Day, also known as International Workers’ Solidarity Day to commemorate the sacrifices made to win their rights. 

BAFLF & JKSS have organized various programmes including colorful processions, rallies, discussion meeting. The agricultural workers of different trade union affiliated with BAFLF took part in these programmes.

Abdul Mazid, General Secretary of BAFLF said before inaugurating the rally, ‘we are struggling to ensure our rights. Though agricultural workers and peasants including rural workers contribute a lot in our economy, they are deprived of facilities, just wage, real price of their crops’. He urged the workers to forge workers greater unity and to join the fight for establishing their demands.

Rima Akter, General Secretary of JKSS, Golam Sorowor and Mamun Hossain of BAFLF and others farm workers leaders delivered their speech demanding permanent employment for irregular workers in BADC as well as improved retirement benefit, paid weekly holidays and maternity leave.   

A colourful rally was brought out from in front of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute around 9 am and ended at district commissioner office, Gazipur.

Farmers and agriculture workers in Bangladesh continue their struggle for their rights to land, proper land reform and food sovereignty

Today 17 April 2015, in memory of the massacre of 19 Brazilian landless peasants Bangladesh Agricultural Farm Labour Federation (BAFLF), Bangladesh Sramajibi Kendra (BSK) and Jatiyo Krishani-Shamik Samiti (JKSS) jointly observed International Day of Peasant Farmer Struggles Against Transnational Companies and free trade agreements declared by Via Campesina April 17th.

This year we arranged several actions across the country including human chain, procession and rally demanding farmers’ right to land, actual land and agri-reform and food sovereignty focusing on the slogan:  

Globalize the struggle, globalize hope!

For People Food Sovereignty,

 Against Transnational Companies and FTAs!

বাংলাদেশ কৃষি ফার্ম শ্রমিক ফেডারেশন ও জাতীয় কিষানী নারী শ্রমিক সমিতি উদ্যোগে আন্তর্জাতিক নারী দিবস পালিত।

আজ ৮মার্চ ২০১৫, বাংলাদেশ কৃষি ফার্ম শ্রমিক ফেডারেশন ও জাতীয় কিষানী নারী শ্রমিক সমিতি যৌথভাবে আন্তর্জাতিক নারী দিবস পালন করেন। সকাল ১০ টায় গাজীপুরস্থ বিআরআরআই শ্রমিক সমিতির কার্যালয়ের সামনে নারী শ্রমিকরা সমেবেত হন। সংক্ষিপ্ত সমাবেশের পরে বিক্ষভ মিছিল বের করেন। দুপুর ১২ টার সময় সমিতির কার্যালয়ে নারী দিবসের আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। উক্ত সভায় সভাপতিত্ব করেন নূরজাহান বেগম। সভায় বক্তারা নারী দিবসের তাৎপর্য তুলে ধরেন। তারা বলেন ১৮৫৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দে মজুরিবৈষম্য, কর্মঘন্টা নির্দিষ্ট করা, কাজের অমানবিক পরিবেশের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ জানাতে মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের নিউইয়ার্কের রাস্তায় নেমেছিলেন সুতা কারখানার নারী শ্রমিকেরা।

১৯০৮ খ্রিস্টাব্দে নিউইয়ার্কের সোশ্যাল ডেমোক্র্যাট নারী সংগঠনের পক্ষ থেকে আয়োজিত নারী সমাবেশে জার্মান সমাজতান্ত্রিক নেত্রী ক্লারা জেটকিনের নেতৃত্বে সর্বপ্রথম আন্তর্জাতিক নারী সম্মেলন হয়। এরপর ১৯১০ খ্রিস্টাব্দে ডেনমার্কের কোপেনহেগেনে অনুষ্ঠিত হয় দ্বিতীয় আন্তর্জাতিক নারী সম্মেলন। এ সম্মেলনে ক্লারা প্রতি বৎসর ৮ মার্চকে আন্তর্জাতিক নারী দিবস হিসেবে পালন করার প্রস্তাব দেন। সিদ্ধান্ত হয় ১৯১১ খ্রিস্টাব্দ থেকে নারীদের সম-অধিকার দিবস হিসেবে দিনটি পালিত হবে।এরই ধরাবাহিকতায় ১৯৭৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দে ৮ মার্চকে আন্তর্জাতিক নারী দিবস হিসেবে আনুষ্ঠানিক স্বীকৃতি দেয় জাতিসংঘ।

বক্তারা আরো বলেন, বিশ্বের উন্নত দেশগুলো নারীদের সম্মানের চোখে দেখলেও আমাদের দেশের নারীরা আজও অবহেলিত। এই অবস্থাথেকে মুক্তি পেতে হলে নারীর সমস্যায় নারীদেরকেই এগিয়ে আসতে হবে। যদিও আমাদের দেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রী, সংসদের বিরোধী দলীয় নেত্রী, জাতীয় সংসদের স্পিকার নারী।

সভাপতির বক্তব্যে নূরজাহান বেগম বলেন, কৃষি ফার্ম শ্রমিকদের বর্তমান ৪ দফা দাবীর অন্যতম একটি দাবী হলো মাতৃত্বকালীন ছুটি বর্তমান ৩ মাস থেকে বৃদ্ধি করে ৬ মাস করা। এই ব্যাপারে প্রয়োজনে সকলে মিলে ঐক্যবদ্ধ আন্দোলন গড়ে তুলতে হবে।

International Women’s Day-2015

Yesterday 30 November 2014, Bangladesh Agricultural Farm Labour Federation (BAFLF) organized a press conference demanding to ensure farmers’ financial security, protect farmers’ right on seeds, and supply quality seeds to farmers and strengthen Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (Govt. seed producing agency) for sustainable agriculture.

BAFLF demand permanent employment for irregular workers in BADC as well as improved retirement benefit, paid weekly holidays and maternity leave.

Today 18 August 2014, Bangladesh Agricultural Farm Labour Federation (BAFLF) conducted a Press Conference in National Press Club, Dhaka to demand  for Parmanand employment of precarious workers employed on Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) farm as per Agricultural Farm Workers’ Appointment and Control Policy (1990) and re-employment of  1604 farm workers as permanent workers who were forced to take voluntary retirement. In addition of to improve retirement benefits equivalent to the wage of 60 months instead of 30 months and two days paid holyday per week, BAFLF also demand to increase paid maternity leave to 6 months, giving farm workers the same maternity rights as farm management and other govt. staff.

In the Press Conference, Abdul Mazid, General Secretary of BAFLF read out his written statement. He urged to take rapid initiative to implement all rightful demands of agricultural farm workers and to pay wages through bank account to reduce corruption of different BADC farms. They also said farm workers have contribution to achieve self sufficiency in food as well as success in agriculture. Skilled farm workers have been producing quality seeds for many days but they are deprived and oppressed. On the other hand, corrupted officers are earning illegal money depriving these helpless workers of their owing. If any one protests this injustice, he/she has been harassed.

He also said farm workers employed in BADC are in danger. They have no job security. At this moment we need to strengthen our unity and make sure to be more active of all BAFLF affiliated BADC workers union to fight against the injustice on them.

Abdul Mazid added BADC authority intentionally doesn’t regularize the workers as a part of conspiracy. They are pocketing thousands of money showing the fake attendance in the name master roll attendance. He urged to stop these and to end discrimination and close the massive gap between the right and entitlements of farm workers and the officers and staff of the BADC as well as all agricultural farms.

Golam Sorowor, finance secretary of BAFLF said at the Press Conference BADC authority is trying to destroy foundation seed for the interest of local and multinational seed companies. For that reason they terminated 1604 skilled farm workers and still now they don’t regularize farm workers who have been working hard to produce quality seeds for the last 20-25 years. He also added that BADC must be strengthen to save the local verities quality foundation seed.

One behalf of BAFLF Abdul Mazid appeal to Honorable Prime Minister to fulfill the following demands:

1. Making permanent of precarious workers employed on Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) farms and re-employment of  1604 farm workers as permanent workers who were forced to take voluntary retirement.
2. Improve retirement benefits equivalent to the wage of 60 months instead of 30 months.
3. Provide 2 days paid holyday per week for workers of agriculture farms as same as the farm officers and employees. 
4. Increase paid maternity leave to 6 months, giving farm workers the same maternity rights as farm management and other govt. staff.    

Among others Abdul Latif, Lehaz Uddin Lahul, Abdul Hamid, Mamun Hossain, and several others union leaders were present at the Press Conference.
